Halloween Season

Yesterday was Elizabeth's birthday. I love how it kicks off the Halloween season. This year I'm going to try to mix up some favorites and classics with some unseen films. I sometimes get trapped into watching films over and over. Any suggestions?

  1. I'm currently mulling over the exact same question! I'll get back to ya if I think of any!

  2. I just finished re-watching Twin Peaks. The new Blu-ray box-set is so amazing, easily my new favorite release on my shelf. It's a great fall viewing as well. I don't care that much for the film, Fire Walk With Me, but the new 90 minutes of deleted scenes, edited together as FWWM: The Missing Pieces, is pretty cool.

  3. Simon is a big Twin Peaks fan. I remember renting the first season on VHS back in the day. I've heard nothing but good things about the box set.

    How's that Halloween box?

  4. Can't wait to check out that Twin Peaks Blu Ray set and am wondering why the heck I don't have it already! Might have to look into getting that round Christmas me thinks... especially if this teased about revival ends up happening.

I've always loved the series but maybe the film even more so as that's the one I saw first. I'd still argue it's one of the more underrated horror films of the past few decades but the series is more consistently entertaining I guess. And looking forward to seeing the Missing Pieces you speak of MLP.

  5. @Brad: The Halloween box-set hasn't arrived, yet! And it'll be some time till I'll get a multizone Blu-ray player. (Perhaps Christmas? Anyone, anyone?)

@Simon: I enjoyed The Missing Pieces mainly because it had scenes with some characters that didn't show up in FWWM. There might not be any really big relevations, but that's why it's such a relaxed and enjoyable watch - if that makes any sense. A particular scene between Laura and Donna's family is a favorite of mine and it's a good example of how the little moments make it such a welcome addition to the film proper. There's also a short and funny scene with Pete. And there's never enough Pete if you ask me!
...and I'm sure you've heard the big news today...it's happening again!

    1. SOMEONE BUY THIS MAN A REGION FREE BLURAY PLAYER!

And I'll believe a Twin Peaks revival when Simon says he saw it!

  6. Brad - I saw it!

MLP - Indeed! That gum you like is going to come back in style! To reiterate, I can't wait to see those missing pieces and the film and series in HD. And I wholeheartedly agree that there's never enough Pete! Eraserhead aside I find myself wishing there was more Jack Nance in every Lynch movie. So sad but strangely Lynchian how he met his untimely end by the way...
